Get to Know Allen Goben:
Where are you from?
I am originally from Humeston, Iowa and I currently live just outside of Indianola.
Tell us about your family and your background.
My wife, Kelly, and I have been married for 25 years. We have three daughters: Natalie, Riley and Halley. We also have Benny, who is a canine but is like a member of the family. Our family enjoys a lot of hobbies. In particular, we like music. We all sing, some of us play different instruments and just really enjoy music, as well as listening to live music.
I also enjoy sports, particularly football. Our family dog Benny is also a great hobby for us.
What is your background? How did you choose real estate?
My dad was an electrician so I grew up wiring houses and being around the construction process with houses, grain bins and machine sheds. I transitioned from there into a career in the education sector, as a teacher, a coach, a counselor and administrator. Along the way, I worked for a couple of years for a software company doing a coast-to-coast senior executive role for business development. Alongside that, I was also doing property development by flipping houses and buying and selling a lot of real estate.
That really helped me transition into this second career.
What is your favorite neighborhood in the Des Moines area?
I like all of the neighborhoods in this area. Iowa is such a great place to live and has so many neighborhoods with unique qualities that make them special. Of course, I like the neighborhood where I live which is right on the edge of central and southern Iowa. It’s just beautiful country and we really like it.
Why did you choose real estate?
The reason I’m passionate about real estate is that owning a home is one of the most important things we do in life. Whether a person is selling or buying a home, it can be really exciting. It can also be really stressful. Because I have a background that includes all phases of the construction process, I feel like I have a lot of support for people in their decision-making process and can offer a lot of insights to help them.
I also have a counseling background. This can be a stressful experience for people as well and there’s an emotional side to either selling or buying a home. I’m here to support people as they go through this process so it’s as fun and engaging as possible.
