Jason Mickelson joins CENTURY 21 Signature Real Estate. We are happy to welcome him to our Ames office!

What is your name and where are you from?
Jason Mickelson from Perry, Iowa.  However, Ames has been home since 1997.

Tell me about your family.
My family began at Iowa State University where God drew me toward the most amazing woman named Angela.  She was my first true test in sales when we met in 1998.  By 2000 we were married with another special addition on the way. Eily is our one and only bundle of joy. She is 16 and has grown into quite a young lady who loves to sing and she is the center of our family now as she finishes her sophomore year at Ames High.  Angela loves her career in accounting at Workiva where she works in the Professional Services Department.

Hobbies?
My hobbies are mostly centered around family, but running, exercising and socializing fill up most of my free time.

What did you do before being a Realtor?
After attending Iowa State University, my first position was in retail management before transitioning to the car industry. Since 2004 I assisted thousands of people with their second biggest purchase, their vehicle

Why did you choose to be a Century 21® agent?
I have been working in Iowa Falls for the past three years and I wanted to be closer to Ames and to strengthen my relationships in the community that I live. Relationships have always been important to me, and in my case, Joe Schafbuch, who owns Century 21®, hired and mentored me in the car business. That being said, it was a logical fit to follow his lead and to choose Century 21®.

What do you like about the culture here at C21®?
The culture is centered around sharing and learning.  Many people believe that this is a cut-throat type of an industry, but not here at C21®. I love the amount of help and training I have received.

Tell me about the coaching and training you’ve received here at C21®.
This is a major reason I am here and I have been very pleased with how everyone here has delivered on their commitment to my success.  So far there has been about 8 people really working to guide me through the initial phases quickly.  There has been training on systems, processes, forms, presentations, philosophical business strategy, and group discussions a couple times per week regarding the market.  That is a ton of information and all of it has been valuable.

What tools do you find helpful for your business?
I believe that Contactually and Zap will be huge assets over time, but the thing I love the most so far has been all of the weekly meetings with our office and our weekly Connect meetings with newer agents who have been in the business 2 years or less.

What do you like about the team meetings/C21® Connect/round table?
Questions are welcome and everyone is learning.  My feeling has been from day 1, this group is serious about growing their knowledge and skills when it comes to real estate and personal development.

What is your favorite neighborhood in Des Moines/Ankeny/Ames?
I love the Sommerset area because of the close proximity to so many things from restaurants, banks, dry-cleaners and a gym so that I can focus on my fitness.

Any advice for new agents?
Talk to several organizations and see who has a plan or a road map for you and then make the right choice for you.

Why are you passionate about being a Realtor?
I love helping people with their big purchases.  The reward that comes with Real Estate is that you know they are going to love their house and the relationship you form while they list or shop for their next home will continue for decades in many cases.
