Wondering how to get started on TikTok as a real estate agent?

Video is more essential to a strong marketing strategy than ever before. In fact, this study found that 82% of Internet traffic would be directed to video by 2021. Whether you’re an experienced video marketer or just starting to learn about how to use it in your marketing strategy, the place to be right now is TikTok.

Not quite sure what TikTok is? TikTok is a video-sharing social network where users can share short videos using their own recorded sounds or the app’s extensive library of songs and user-created sounds. Most videos are 30-60 seconds long and funny or educational in nature.

“But my clients aren’t on TikTok! That app is for teenagers!” Are you sure about that? TikTok may have started off as the hot, new social network for Gen Z’ers and younger, but more and more millennials, Gen X’ers and even Baby Boomers can be found on it.

In fact, 30% of users on TikTok are 21-29 years old and 25% are 30-49 years old. Your clients and their friends and family members are there and you need to be too!

Not sure how to get started? We compiled a list of the five easiest TikTok videos every real estate agent should make.

1. Behind-the-scenes look at your business.

Everyone wants to know what real estate agents do all day! A behind-the-scenes video is a great way to let your clients into your world so they can learn more about what you do to make their experiences so amazing. This can be anything from how you write an offer to prepping a home for a showing to handling a last-minute problem. Let people see the good, the bad and the ugly about what really happens in the life of a real estate agent.

2. Answer FAQs from buyers and sellers.

How many times do you answer the same questions from first-time homebuyers? How many sellers ask you the same questions during a listing presentation? Is there anything about real estate most people don’t know and are too afraid to ask about? A Q&A- or FAQ-style video is a great way to answer questions, establish your authority as a real estate expert and teach buyers and sellers more about real estate.

You can compile a list of frequently asked questions for different scenarios or ask people to send you questions they’ve always wanted to ask an agent. You might be surprised what people want to know!

3. Share information and educate (while having fun!).

TikTok isn’t just for entertaining videos of singing parrots! There are so many ways to share good information in a fun, engaging and entertaining way. Create a content list of little-known real estate facts, home buying and selling tips, how-tos, and information on confusing topics. How can you create a short and pithy video explaining one piece of information?

Make use of trending sounds or dances for this to make it extra entertaining. It can be as simple as you dancing to a new song while text displays on the screen next to you. Yes, you might have to learn a few new dances.

4. Share real-life stories.

Stories are easier to consume when they showcase real people. How can you share real-life experiences with your people? Think about entertaining or feel-good experiences you’ve had in your career. Did you help a first-time buyer achieve their dream of homeownership in a touching way? Did your last clients sell the family home? Did you have a weird, but funny, experience at an open house that just needs to be shared?

Everyone has stories! Share them with others to show empathy, humor and feeling. You might be surprised what resonates with people.

You don’t have to be a professional dancer to nail the latest TikTok trends. You don’t even have to dance at all! There are many trends on TikTok that you can try out. Part of the fun is jumping in and not being afraid to be silly!

By the way, every video you make doesn’t have to be about real estate. In fact, we’d say try to make a few videos that aren’t real estate related. This is a good way to just have fun, show off your personality and entertain your followers. We guarantee your people will love it!

Whether you’re new to the world of TikTok or already spending hours a day watching videos (it’s easy to get sucked in), think about how you can reach your sphere of influence using TikTok. Even if you decide your clients and would-be referrals likely aren’t on TikTok, you can still use the video editor, trends and video style to create short, entertaining and informative videos to share on Facebook and Instagram Reels. You can even include these videos in your email or text campaigns! However you use it, TikTok is the place to be for every savvy real estate agent looking for a creative and innovative boost to their marketing strategy.
